    SIGNTECH EMBRACES CAREER AWARENESS!

Pathways to a Career in the Sign Industry

Sign Manufacturing Day, part of the national Manufacturing Day experience, takes place on the first Friday in October. The National MFG Day started in 2012, and later, sign industry events were sponsored by the International Sign Association (ISA), with most events hosted on Friday, October 7th. Sign Manufacturing Day came a little early this year for one company! On October 3rd, CSA member company Signtech Inc. provided a tour of their facility in San Diego for upwards of 90 students from Lincoln High School. The company has been participating in Sign Manufacturing Day since 2015.

During the tour, participants learned about the history of Signtech, sign fabrication, and the career opportunities the sign industry has to offer. As students walked through Signtech’s evolving on-site sign museum and continued through each department of the facility, they developed a better understanding of the life of a sign, from concept through fabrication.

The referenced tour had been in the planning at Lincoln High School, as part of a new program – Pathways, established in the California School System, to prepare students for college and/or a career. This program was introduced to the California Sign Association (CSA) 5+ years ago, as the CSA Sign Training & Education Program Series “STEPS” was initiated. Roy Flahive, Executive Director of CSA, and Cheryl Flahive, Member Services, participated in the tour at Signtech’s facility.

CSA’s education efforts continue, implementing STEPS and addressing the need for a Skilled & Trained Workforce (STW). For more information on the referenced programs and/or inspiring career Pathways and help to support students in their career journey within your community, feel free to contact Cheryl at: cflahive@calsign.org.
