Meet, Tour and Explore- Recap of Jan 24th

Board Meeting on January 24th, California State Capitol, and More

January 24th, the CSA Board of Directors met in Sacramento, for a regularly scheduled board meeting. The subject matter addressed at the meeting, during the standing committees (Government Affairs, Education, Communication, Technical, Professionalism and Membership) updates to the board, included – keeping up with association growth and membership needs, the CSA Sign Training & Education Program Series (STEPS), Crane Operator Certification program, as well as additional activities by staff.

After the board meeting, Jeff Aran, CSA’s legal Counsel had arranged for CSA board members to meet with Legislators at nineteen Senate & Assemblyman offices, between 2:30pm – 4:00pm; some walked to the Capitol, some took Uber/Lyft, meeting at the Capitol where most stumbled on to Governor Newsom’s press conference outside his office, just prior to the 2:30pm visits – it was interesting to be no more than twenty feet from the new governor and witness his poise before the many news cameras filming his up-date on PG&E and the wildfires.  The visits went well as groups of 2-3 sat down with legislative staff to discuss key issues relative to the on-premise sign industry; including CARB, DIR, workforce development, insurance, along with  several other topics of interest to our CSA membership.

Then a CSA Group of twenty-four met in the Capitol Rotunda at 4pm, for a terrific VIP Tour of the Capitol with docent Bill White; not only had Bill worked at the Capitol, he has been a docent for many years at the Sacramento Zoo; and is a friend of Jeff Aran, who is also a docent at the zoo; which added a special charm to our tour.

Following the tour, twenty-five people then sat down for a wonderful dinner and camaraderie at the Holiday Inn Sacramento Downtown, with a presentation by Louis Stewart, Chief Innovation Officer for the City of Sacramento.  All those in attendance enjoyed hearing about the creative and innovative programs initiated in Sacramento, with the intent for the City to be more than just the State Capitol with government offices; it is a dynamic, exciting city to visit, live and raise a family in.
