Exciting Events in Sacramento!
April 21st, the CSA Board of Directors met in Sacramento, for a regularly scheduled board meeting; in attendance were 15 of the 22 directors as well as one of our active Directors Emeritus. The subject matter addressed at the meeting included the following important activities:
Reports from standing committees (Government Affairs, Education, Communication, Technical, Professionalism and Membership); updates to the board’s “CSA Focus 2022” efforts, as well as additional activities by staff.
Not only was April 21st CSA’s Board meeting and Day at the Capitol in Sacramento, it was a banner day for sign legislation! That morning we learned the US Supreme Court upheld the distinction between onsite and offsite signs in a case actively supported by CSA, ISA, other sign associations, and thousands of cities throughout the country.
After the morning board meeting, at the California State Capitol we had the opportunity to raise our concerns with various legislative offices. CSA arranged eleven in-person office and Zoom visits! Three teams of Board members met with legislators who serve on the Senate and Assembly Business & Professions, Transportation and Environment committees (policy committees affecting signage and contracting issues).
Following the visits, directors and guests returned to Holiday Inn Sacramento Downtown for networking and a wonderful dinner, with a presentation by CSA’s special guest David Fogt, California CSLB Registrar.
David R. Fogt became Registrar of Contractors on May 2, 2017. In the position, Mr. Fogt serves as CSLB’s executive officer, and oversees a $73 million budget and more than 400 employees in Sacramento and at other offices around the state. Mr. Fogt, who earned his painting contractor license in 1986, began his CSLB career in February 1990. Over the next decade he worked in a number of supervisory positions in CSLB’s Enforcement division and was named Enforcement Chief in October 2001. Mr. Fogt served in that position until his appointment to Registrar.
We were honored to have Mr. Fogt with us; a longtime friend of CSA and we welcomed his insights. He updated everyone on CSLB activities, potential legislation affecting contractors, sting opportunities, as well as pending review of the scope for C-7 and c-10 licensees relative to signage work.
